Q：Is galvanized pipe rust proof?
A：Galvanization is a zinc coating applied over the top of steel. It prevents rust and corrosion far longer than paint will, often for 50 years or more, but eventually that brown rot will set in.
Q：How can you tell if a pipe is galvanized?
A：If you can't tell by looking, we recommend you take a screwdriver and a strong magnet and scratch the outside of the pipe. Galvanized pipes will have a silver gray color and will attract a strong magnet.
Q：Can galvanized steel get wet?
A：When galvanized steel becomes wet while in coil form, or as packed tube, storage staining can result. Storage stain (white rust) is simply the chemical compound zinc hydroxide which forms when zinc is in contact with moisture.
